The 5th Annual Kitsap County Solar Tour was held on October 2, 2010

At this year’s Solar Tour, people found a number of ideas to bolster their self-reliance, & strengthen the community.
They found answers to:
★ Can the sun power their home and move their car?
★ How does a single mom afford to give all five of her children warm baths.
★ Can an energy performance evaluation save them money?
★ And, who holds the key to the Community Solar Garden?

All proceeds from the Tour went to the benefit of the solar thermal system at a Habitat for Humanity home.  >> learn more

On April 17, 2010, CES hosted the first Community Energy Forum, at the Bainbridge High School Commons. Expert presentations were given in community solar, district energy, and energy efficiency. There were also nearly twenty exhibitors in the renewable energy and energy efficiency fields; including a live demonstration of a gasifier unit by Victory Gasworks (far right below), which produced electricity from wood. Special guests during the day included US. Rep. Jay Inslee (far left below) and State Senator Phil Rockefeller (center photo below receiving a Thank You plague presented by Gary Nystedt of the City of Ellensburg).

Comment received about the Community Energy Forum:The Forum was a very strong assembly of both industry and government expertise. The presentations were highly informative and relevant. Knowledge of the broad spectrum of energy generation and conservation is important to all of us who practice in one form or another. The presentations regarding state and federal programs were also useful. Whether directly related or indirectly related to my field of energy auditing, the presentations added to awareness at minimum and inspired new ideas and approaches to my work at best. They also provide resources for current work in areas such as renewables and potential funding info. which could ultimately benefit our customers. Being able to network with other companies and representatives was an added bonus.By Paul Holt, EcoFab

4th Annual Kitsap County Solar Tour: All things green and solar
On October 3, 2009, many Kitsap residents took the opportunity to visit 22 sites all over the County, from Port Gamble to Port Orchard, to learn how people are harnessing energy from the sun, increasing their home energy efficiency, and living with a lower carbon footprint. The event was organized CES and was part of the National Solar Tour, the largest renewable energy event in the United States. Of particular interest was the opportunity to watch a professional home energy audit take place at Hope House on Bainbridge Island. People could see first hand what can be found with a blower door test and a thermal imaging test. Other notable sites was the first LEED Platinum designed home in Washington outside of Seattle and a community solar energy project, at Sakai School on Bainbridge Island, where the tour kick-off.

State Representative Christine Rolfes was present at the kick-off at Sakai School (pictured at left). She told the audience:"The community has given the students at Sakai a great gift. The solar panels represent our creativity, our determination, and our vision of a hopeful transition to a renewable energy future. These solar panels are the gift of hope and opportunity, and with them we show the kids that our generation is doing our best to meet the challenges that we face."
