Solar Relief Fund – Helping those affected by Hurricane Sandy
We recognize the seriousness of climate change and how it is having a direct impact on many lives. The Solar Relief Fund was set up to help those affected by Hurricane Sandy. With the generous support from several solar energy components manufacturers and Sunergy Systems, $300 to $800 is donated for every solar energy system purchased through the Go Solar Seattle Northwest campaign. This means that not only will those who have decided to go solar be using clean renewable energy and cutting their carbon footprint, they are directly helping those affected by that horrendous storm. Our goal is to raise $20,000 by December 31, 2012. We are also accepting donations from the general public. Please help us by spreading the word about solar energy, the Go Solar Seattle Northwest campaign, and the Solar Relief Fund.
The Partners
Financial support is coming by way of donations provided by Sunergy Systems, Go Solar Seattle Northwest solar contractor, and several major manufacturers in Washington State, Oregon and California:
Sunergy Systems, a major solar contractor based in Seattle is donating $150 for every solar energy system purchased.
Itek Energy, a manufacturer of inverters and solar modules in Bellingham is donating approximately $500 for every system that uses their products.
Silicon Energy, a manufacturer of inverters and solar modules in Marysville, is donating $150 for every system that uses their products.
SolarWorld, a manufacturer of solar modules in Hillsboro, Oregon, is donating $100 for every system that uses their product.
SunModo, a manufacturer of solar racking systems in Vancouver WA is donating $50 to $100 for every system that uses their product.
SunPower, a manufacturer of inverters and solar modules headquartered in San Jose, California is donating $150 for every system that uses their product.
The money will be collected by Community Energy Solutions, along with any additional donations that anyone wants to make. A check will be sent to the American Red Cross specified for the Hurricane Sandy Relief effort. Our goal is to raise $20,000 through this fundraising effort.
Climate Change Hits Close To Home
For the people at employee-owned Sunergy Systems, what the Hurricane did was personal. Sunergy solar consultant Chris Herman has been a FEMA Reservist for twenty-one years, and has just been called up. Others from Sunergy have immediate friends and relatives greatly impacted by the storm. Howard Lamb, Sunergy’s President said “the stories of loss and hardship has impacted us deeply, and realizing that there are thousands of people who are experiencing the same or worse, we just had to step up. We are proud of the work we do in solar and glad that we can do even more”.
Please donate today. Financial donations make the greatest and most immediate impact. Your tax deductible will be sent to the Red Cross along with the contributions made by the solar partners to provide support and other assistance to those affected by Hurricane Sandy.
